That happens frequently to me. After a few times it sticks so tightly that I can't get the wire out of the tip. Then I unscrew the tip, twisting the wire in the process, cut the wire and install a new tip. That has always cured the problem for several more hours of welding.

To elaborate on what Cole said, loosen the drag on the spool until it will roll a quarter turn or so when you let go of the trigger. Then loosen the drive rollers until you can pull the trigger and easily hold the wire back against a block of wood. At that point you're pretty much immune from bird-nesting the wire. It may take just a whisker more tension on the drive rollers, but no more. The main thing you need to watch on the spool drag is that it can't freewheel enough to let a loop escape from the spool. That causes a real mess. Re-adjust both as the spool is used up. Set up that way, and with a few other tweaks, I can push .035 through an 8' cable.
