Stainless Steel Table + Add Casters | Choose from 43 ...

This is a good solid stainless table perfect for light industrial or home use. I bought the 14&#; x 48&#; size to place a cast iron propane stove on top while we are renovating our kitchen. At first I wanted the casters so I could roll the stove wherever I need to while using, but after putting the table together with the stove on top, the height is a bit above what I&#;m used to, and I did not want to go through the hassle of shortening the legs to accommodate the added height of casters. I&#;m short, my spouse is tall - the height will be perfect for him, I will stand on a foot stool to use it. The table is not that heavy, I was able to lift it above my head to carry into the kitchen after assembling it. I can easily move it where I need it without casters. I had some confusion adding the lower shelf. The box contained a total of 17 Allen screws. The top of the table requires 8 Allen screws to attach the legs. I thought the left over Allen screws were to use on the bottom shelf, and when I tried to insert an Allen screw into the bottom shelf hole, it did not insert nor line up. The holes at first looked like they were not drilled out all the way. Later I realized that there were shorter sized Allen screws already in the holes making the holes appear solid. I flipped the table upside down on a pad, and used two wooden 18 inch high blocks, placing one on each side to keep the bottom shelf propped straight across so I could tighten the screws evenly to assemble the bottom shelf. The table is slightly top heavy, because the bottom shelf is much smaller than the top, and the bottom shelf is not stainless steel, it is galvanized steel Obviously the bottom shelf is required to add strength to the legs of the table giving the top more stability. However, I would be reluctant to put anything heavy on the bottom shelf since it is only held together by 8 small Allen screws pushed up against the legs with no support underneath. There are no bolts or nuts for a true solid assembly. A large hose clamp on each leg under the bottom shelf may be beneficial although it would detract from the beauty of the table. I will have to think about how to add weight to the bottom shelf for safer weight distribution for using the table without it toppling over. Perhaps filling the bottom part of the legs with Quickcrete or sand might do the trick. Overall, this table will be sufficient for our uses until we build a real industrial kitchen.
