Vessel Prime Staff Bag: Carry Your Clubs Like a Pro
You have the shoes, shirts, and hats from top 100 courses and dropped big money on clubs, but what’s the last piece missing to complete your professional golf look? The answer: The Prime Staff bag from Vessel.
Nothing says you're a serious golfer like a serious golf bag, and that's exactly what the Prime Staff is.
Staff bags have long been viewed as taboo on the course, with their use often "reserved" for Tour players and teaching professionals. However, I believe they have significantly resurfaced in recent years, and any serious player will not regret adding one to their on-course collection.
Vessel Bags sets the benchmark for golf bag quality and design, a fact consistently demonstrated through the replacement of traditional OEM-branded bags at the professional level. Some of the world's top players—including Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, and Steve Stricker—are known for their unwavering use of Vessel bags. While their caddies may carry them, these bags are a staple on the fairways every weekend.
Quality
Vessel has established itself as the premier bag maker in the industry by focusing on premium-level products that boast unapologetically high quality. The brand's overall styling, use of top-tier materials, and meticulous attention to detail make them my personal favorite golf bag brand. Once you see or use a Vessel bag, you'll find it tough to go back to anything else.
Vessel's high-quality synthetic leather, robust zippers, and premium lining come together to create a piece of golfing artistry that you'll both love and be hesitant to bring out onto the course. However, fret not; even their white bags age beautifully over time.
A Season Of Use
I've used the Prime Staff bag for the past season and absolutely LOVE IT! Not only does it make me feel confident and professional when I walk up to the clubhouse, but it also helps me stay organized and stylish on the course. Although I can't say for certain that it's directly related to the bag, my handicap is the lowest it's ever been since I started using it (your results may vary).
Despite the generous amount of white fabric, the bag shows minimal to no signs of wear after constant use in my trunk and extensive time spent on riding, push, and electric carts, as well as transfers to and from the range. It's turned many heads at various courses, and I couldn't be happier with its durability over time.
You might even discover that your bag gets used as part of a "tent" by your 4-year-old at the range.
Dimensions
If you've never used a staff bag, you're probably curious about how it compares in size, shape, and weight to a typical stand or carry model.
While most stand or carry bags weigh between 5-7 pounds, the Prime Staff weighs in—empty—at 12 pounds. Although this weight isn't overwhelming, the bag's abundant capacity will have you loading it up quickly. You won't be walking the course with your Prime Staff, so gear up for some heavy lifting between your car and the bag drop!
The Prime Staff is a single-strap bag that stands upright on its large base, without any stand legs.
Partly due to its large base and symmetrical styling, I've found it very compatible with both electric and traditional push carts. It fits securely on all models I've tested and remains stable throughout the rounds. However, be aware that the loaded weight may impact an electric caddie's battery life, as it expends more energy carrying a heavier load. This hasn’t led to any major issues but is worth considering if you plan to use it with an electric cart.
Pockets Pockets Pockets
The Prime Staff bag has literally allowed me to bring my Boy Scout training to the course, ensuring I always "Be Prepared." My playing partners may joke about my bag weighing 100 pounds, but their laughter ceases when I have everything they need: Band-Aids, phone chargers, and extra rangefinders. This bag has ample pockets and storage for everything!
Personalization
Want to elevate your professional look further? Vessel allows you to personalize the front panel of your new bag on their website for an additional $35 to add your name, and $85 for a logo. I was impressed with the quality of the stitching and how it has held up after a full season of being loaded into and out of my car trunk. The stitching has not affected the bag's waterproofness.
Favorite Features
After using the Prime Staff for a season, I can't live without these features:
- Magnetic pockets on the front and back: These are perfect for quick, easy access during a round. Once you experience them, you'll wonder how you managed without them.
- Storage compartment organization: Organized pockets in the front storage compartment are essential for someone like me who carries a lot of "stuff" on the course. These are uncommon in staff bags and contributed greatly to my organization all season.
- Built-in carry handles at the top: These handles make maneuvering the bag incredibly easy. You'll miss this feature in other staff bags after experiencing it.
